Hey, does anyone else remember the "Ebony Keep" forums, and all the sheep and olives and stuff?

I was looking through some old storage CDs lately, to see if there was anything worth hanging onto, and I discovered a folder full of those little sheep icons:  first, I was all "WTF?"; then, I was all "Oh, yeaaaaaah...I remember those."

Fågelfil!
The hot, wild kitchen!
Reclaiming Art!

My, that was a blast from the past.

(Apologies to anyone who hasn't a bloody clue what I'm on about, and is reading this with a WTF expression on their face, rather like the one I had on when I first excavated those sheep.)

I did a quite random search for EK and found my way here.

I wasn't someone anyone at EK would remember, but you'll love me for saving these for ... how many years?

I think about EK every now and then and really miss the community that we had there. I followed Lina over to her forum for a while, but it did feel like people just got away from forums after a while. And it has been SO LONG, that anything that forms even if it was with the exact same people - it would be so different.

Wow....I hadn't thought about that place in ages! There were sooooooo many inspirational artists there. I keep thinking I need to visit Epilogue more often too, but there seems to be so little time in the day!

Oh, yeah, Epilogue--another blast from the past! Are they still around? I sort of forgot about them, over time, because the site was SO slow to load, and I always saw a million popunder ads.

I think so - but, I haven't been in ages. They set up a twitter account a couple of years ago, but I don't think they ever post in it, and the slowness and popunders are what kept me away, too.

Funny, I was just thinking about EK this weekend. I remember someone mentioning that the full name of the forum showed up in awkwardly irrelevant searches, too. :)

But it was a great place.

Have you had any news from Linda?

No, I haven't talked to anyone from EK in a long time. There was some talk of getting the forum started again a few years ago, and even a prototype forum was built, but it was never brought to public launch.

It would be nice to get the "old crowd" all back together in one place, but trying to get artists to organise anything tends to be like herding cats--ha, ha! I would probably get involved if others were into it, but I wouldn't do it by myself. I don't have that kind of time or know-how.

Though the 'old crowd' would never really be the same again, come to think of it. It's a pity such forums tend to be short-lived. (CGTalk has gone the same way, at least - I don't know about others.)

Yeah, in all the time between then and now, everyone would've moved on with life (well, one certainly hopes so, anyway)! I think part of the reason EK closed, to begin with, was exactly that: it wasn't the same as when it started, and nobody really knew where to go with it. The more successful and long-lived sites seem to be the ones that keep up with the times, and with what people want to talk about.

Thinking of it that way, the Internet has probably moved on from forums, entirely. There's probably some other big social thing out there that I either don't know about or can't be arsed with (Facebook, I'm looking at you...).
